On machines with moving or hazardous parts, safety is not a choice, but a necessity. A hazardous area must always be monitored reliably, without compromising the operation, flexibility or accessibility of the machine. A safety light curtain from ReeR Safety is one of the solutions to achieve this. The light curtain forms a curtain of parallel light beams that monitors access to the hazardous area. As soon as a person interrupts (part of) the light beams, the machine is stopped, while goods and materials can enter the hazardous area without stopping the machine.
This approach to safeguarding creates the need for light curtains that are not only safe, but also integrate well with machine design and application requirements. The SafeReady series has been developed to make the installation and use of safety light curtains simpler and more transparent. The series combines reliable machine safety with a design that responds to a wide range of functional requirements, from simple safeguarding to more complex applications, without resulting in unnecessary complexity in design, installation or use.
The SafeReady series from ReeR Safety consists of safety light curtains for industrial applications. The series is designed as a versatile platform with multiple resolutions for finger, hand and body detection, protective heights up to 2260 mm and a range up to 18 m. All SafeReady light curtains feature integrated multicolour LED status indication, providing immediate visibility of operating status, fault status and alignment during installation and use. The series complies with Type 4, PL e and SIL 3.
The SafeReady light curtains have IP65 and IP67 protection ratings and are resistant to shock and vibration in accordance with EN 60068. The series is suitable for operating temperatures from –30 °C to +55 °C and supports cascading of up to four safety light curtains, allowing multiple light curtains to operate together within a single safety function. Detection takes place over the full protective height without dead zones at the top or bottom edges (zero dead zone). All versions are equipped with fixed connection cables (pigtails), which can be routed in three directions for flexible cable routing.
The SafeReady series is available in three versions with increasing functional levels: Basic, Standard and Plus. The differences between these versions are explained in more detail below.

The Basic version represents the entry level within the SafeReady series and is intended for applications where a simple, fixed safety function is sufficient. This version provides fixed safety functions without adjustable options such as EDM, blanking or configurable logic.
The Basic version uses the same resolutions, protective heights and ranges as the other SafeReady versions. This makes it suitable for finger, hand and body detection, with protective heights up to 2260 mm and a range up to 18 m. Built-in functions such as automatic restart, beam alignment indication and beam coding support easy installation and prevent interference between multiple light curtains.
For the safety function, the Basic version features two self-monitoring static PNP safety outputs, protected against short-circuit, overload and reverse polarity. The supply voltage is 24 V DC and four digital inputs are available for basic functions within the safety chain. Monitoring of external safety components (EDM) is not integrated and is implemented via external solutions, such as a safety PLC from the ReeR MOSAIC or SR ONE series. The Basic version uses a 5-pin M12 connector for both transmitter and receiver.
The Standard version builds on the functionality of the Basic version and adds additional monitoring and control functions. This version is intended for applications where more control over the safety chain is required, without the need for extensive configuration.
In addition to all functions of the Basic version, the Standard version features integrated EDM (External Device Monitoring). This allows external safety components, such as safety relays or contactors, to be monitored directly by the light curtain.
The Standard version also supports a start and restart interlock, enabling controlled machine restart, manually or automatically, depending on the application.
Thanks to the integrated EDM, the Standard version can be more easily integrated into the safety chain, with less reliance on external interfaces. Integration with existing safety solutions, such as a ReeR MOSAIC safety PLC, remains possible. Read more about safety PLCs.
The Standard version uses M12 connections with a 5-pin connector for the transmitter and an 8-pin connector for the receiver.
The Plus version represents the highest functional level within the SafeReady series and builds on all functions of the Basic and Standard versions. This version is intended for applications where settings need to be adjustable and where flexibility is required during commissioning or later modifications.
The Plus version offers extensive setting options via Bluetooth. Using an app on a mobile device or PC, parameters can be adjusted and status information can be read out, without a physical connection to the light curtain. Configurable functions include fixed and floating blanking, the pre-restart function, resolution reduction and an adjustable response time within defined limits.
The Plus version is prepared for additional functions such as muting, PSDI (single and double break) and master/slave configuration, which will become available in the future.
The Plus version uses M12 connections with a 5-pin connector for the transmitter and an 8-pin connector for the receiver.

The SafeReady series is designed with practical use in mind. From simple visual status indication to more advanced functions such as Bluetooth and configurable settings: SafeReady light curtains provide direct insight into status and operation, making installation and commissioning clearer.
The design of the series makes it possible to tailor a safety solution to the complexity of the application, without immediately adding too many functions or having to redesign the system. As a result, the SafeReady series fits well with how machines are designed and adapted in practice, without safety becoming unnecessarily complex or time-consuming.
The SafeReady light curtains are just one example of the solutions that fortop offers within the Safe Operation knowledge area. This knowledge area focuses on safety around machines and installations. In addition to light curtains, the Safe Operation programme includes, among others:
* Fail-safe inductive sensors
* Safety mats
* Safety PLCs
* Safety relays
* Radar-based safety barrier
* Safety switches
* Signal lamps
With this broad range within Safe Operation, you will always find a suitable solution for safe industrial processes in your sector: from machine building to the production and processing industry.
